Ye Olde man and Scythe dates back to 1251. Haunted by the ghost of Charlotte de Tremoille, the wife of Royalist James Stanley, Seventh Earl of Derby. Stanley spent his last three hours in the pub before he was beheaded in the square outside, for his part in the Bolton Massacre.
